Looking Ahead

Tuesday, January 27, 11:30AM

It feels and looks like deep winter around these parts for what feels like the first time in years. The storm on Sunday was the biggest regional winter storm in ten years going back to the Blizzard of 2016. And this cold stretch will rival some of the best runs going back to 1979. The pattern we’ve entered is a good one for cold and snow chances, and we were fortunate because it is rare to begin a pattern with the event that we got on Sunday. Normally our big storms come as patterns are breaking down, so there may be good times ahead as this pattern looks to continue for the foreseeable future.

Looking at the rest of this week, some weak disturbances may bring clouds and possible flurries from time to time as the arctic air gets periodically reinforced, but the next chance at significant snow is this weekend as a low looks to develop to the south and gain moisture from the Gulf and the Atlantic. Right now the storm is mostly modeled to stay to our east, so I think the eastern shore has the best chance of seeing any real accumulations, but it certainly needs to be watched.

I’ll send out occasional updates until there is some certainty.
